“Singing is good for the soul!”
**PLEASE NOTE THAT DUE TO THE COVID-19 LOCKDOWN WE ARE UNABLE TO MEET UP IN PERSON UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. WE ARE MEETING ‘VIRTUALLY’ MONDAY NIGHTS ON ZOOM DURING THIS TIME. WE CAN’T WAIT TO REMOVE THIS STATEMENT AND RELEASE THE DATES OF OUR NEXT CHOIR SERIES!**
FELIX’S ROCK CHOIR “Singing is good for the soul!”
Felix’s Rock Choir is an active local community choir with a difference:
Members do:
– have say in repertoire
– make contributions to arrangements
– get to do a lot of gigs (typically 12+) every year
– have loads of fun!
Members don’t:
– have to audition
– have to sightread music notation
– have to sing to Karaoke tracks
– have to put up with diva-type lead singers
LOCATION
We rehearse at
Blackheath Wanderers Sports Club [BWSC] Pavilion
(behind Riverston School)
(rear of) 63 Eltham Road,
London SE12 8UF
There’s free parking there and it’s on the 122 and 321 Bus routes, between Lee Green and Kidbrooke on the A20.
REHEARSALS
When social distancing ends, we will rehearse term time Monday nights from 7:30pm–9:30pm. We have performed over 100 songs since our first rehearsal in 2007. We have about 40-50 songs ‘active’ at any one time. We typically sing over 15 songs every week. We’d rather spend a little time on a lot of songs and fine tune them over time than to spend 1-2 hours on 1-2 songs. When we’re working on new material, or preparing for a gig, we might do fewer songs. We take a 30min break at 8:15pm.
REPERTOIRE
We have a PDF songbook (lyrics) of over 100 songs including all the songs we have performed ‘live’ at some point. We perform a lot of classic Rock, Pop, Doo Wop and Motown, featuring songs by The Beatles, Beach Boys, David Bowie, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell, The Turtles, Crosby Stills & Nash, Earth Wind & Fire, Johnny Cash, Bill Withers, Joni Mitchell, Mamas & Papas and the O’Jays to name but a few. And we dabble in some modern songs by artists like Paloma Faith, Pharrell Williams, Bastille and Cee Lo Green, too.
PLAYLIST
Our PDF songbook has links to YouTube videos of all our material. If you have Soundcloud, you can listen to some of our repertoire online at no cost. Here’s a recent Soundcloud Playlist of our day out at Abbey Road Studios in 2015:
