FELIX’S ROCK CHOIR “Singing is good for the soul!”
Felix’s Rock Choir is an active local community choir with a difference:

Members do:
– have say in repertoire
– make contributions to arrangements
– get to do a lot of gigs (typically 12+) every year
– have loads of fun!

Members don’t:
– have to audition
– have to sightread music notation
– have to sing to Karaoke tracks
– have to put up with diva-type lead sIngers

We rehearse at

Blackheath Wanderers Sports Club [BWSC] Pavilion
(behind Riverston School)
(rear of) 63 Eltham Road,
London SE12 8UF

There’s free parking there and it’s on the 122 and 321 Bus routes, between Lee Green and Kidbrooke on the A20.

We rehearse term time Monday nights from 7:30pm–9:30pm. We start with simple warm-up exercises, followed by 5-6 songs that most of us know, a stab at  some new material and a big finish by 9:30pm with something from our extensive catalogue. When we have an imminent gig, we tend to rehearse the set, and then fine tune any sections that need a little extra focus or revision. We take a 30min break at 8:15pm.

We have a PDF songbook (lyrics) of almost 200 songs including 60 we have performed ‘live’ at some point. We perform a lot of classic Rock, Pop, Doo Wop and Motown, featuring songs by The Beatles, Beach Boys, David Bowie, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell, The Turtles, Crosby Stills & Nash, Earth Wind & Fire, Johnny Cash, Bill Withers, Joni Mitchell, Mamas & Papas and the O’Jays to name but a few. And we dabble in some modern songs by artists like Paloma Faith, Bastille  and Cee Lo Green, too.

Our PDF songbook has links to YouTube videos of all our material. If you have Soundcloud, you can listen to some of our repertoire online at no cost. Here’s a recent Soundcloud Playlist of our day out at Abbey Road Studios in 2015:

Felix’s Rock Choir is lead by American music director/guitarist Baz Golin. Baz is also ‘Dean of Rock’ at Felix’s School of Rock. He teaches guitar and bass privately, and rock bands in schools. He performs regularly with several local musicians and bands on guitar/bass/vocals, too.

The Choir have been going since 2007, have an active repertoire of over 60 songs, recorded a 4 song EP ‘The Creekside Sessions’ (2008), and 12 Song CD ‘Felix’s Rock Choir at Abbey Road Studios (2015), performed in over 3 dozen YouTube videos and have a collection of 100s of photos on Flickr. We have gigged at local festivals like: Lewisham People’s Day, Manor House Gardens Festival, The Brockley Max Festival, The Crofton Park Carnival, and 2 of The Southbank’s recent Choral Festivals. We have gigged in pubs and clubs in the area including: The Dirty South, The Hob, The Ravensbourne Arms, The Old Tiger’s Head, The IvyHouse, Jam Circus, and The Ladywell Tavern. The choir have appeared at weddings, the Olympic Torch Relay (2012), and at a masked ball!

There’s no audition – if you’re brave enough to sing with us – you’re welcome! Prospective members can audition us one time for free. We book in series of 5, 6 or 7 weeks (roughly aligned with state school half terms), minus bank holiday Mondays. It works out to £8/session, paid at the beginning of the current series. Currently we accept cash, cheques or BACS transfers. (We’re working on card payments, too!) BACS details are on our FAQ page
